This book is my take on the little booklets that get folded in half and crammed into a bag of runes. But, try as I did, I could never bring myself to minimize the runes in that way. Often, what you get is a short list of associations for each rune, or maybe, if you're lucky, one or two short sentences with little to no explanation of the historical importance. This isn't a book of associations, but it's also not a full course workbook to the Elder Futhark. It turned out as a guided journal of sorts. I wrote this book with the intention of sharing information and history, hoping to inspire you to discover your own associations and find your own way to cast and read the runes. I give some history of the runes and the people who created them, as well as some explanations of how they were used. I also provide a little foundation for each rune of the Elder Futhark for you to build on. The stark, bold lines of the runes can be intimidating, but I find them inspiring on so many levels. I hope you will too.
